S11 Surface (Refresher)
RIISS00034 Surface Coal Mine Safety Skill Set

This refresher program supports compliance with the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 (QLD) and aligns with the requirements outlined in Recognised Standard 11 – Training in coal mines. It is designed for individuals seeking to maintain their competency to work safely in Queensland’s open-cut surface coal mines.

This program is for current workers in open-cut surface coal mines who have previously completed the Standard 11 (RIISS00034 Surface Coal Mine Safety Skill Set) and are due to refresh their competency.

Standard 11  competencies are required to be refreshed every  5  years from date of issue.

Units which will be refreshed include:

  • RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIGOV201E Comply with site work processes/procedures
  • RIIWHS201E Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
  • RIIRIS201E Conduct local risk control
  • RIIERR205D Apply initial response first aid
  • RIIERR302E Respond to local emergencies and incidents

Entry Requirements

  • Students must have completed the Standard 11 Surface, RIISS00034 Surface Coal Mine Safety Skill Set.
  • Students must possess the necessary language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills (ACSF Level 3) required to interpret and apply the relevant information effectively.
  • Students will be assessed to ensure they have the appropriate level of foundational skills necessary for the program

  • Current Unique Student Identifier (USI) Transcript detailing Skill Set or Unit of Competency already completed
  • Certified copies (if not issued by Col Joy Training Services) of Statements of Attainment for detailing Skill Set or Unit of Competency already completed
Failure to provide this evidence may delay your certification.
  • Photo identification - drivers licence, passport, proof of age card / photo card high risk work licence.
  • Your Unique Student Identifier (USI) number, if not already provided.

Please be advise if attending a course, you cannot park in Fursden Street.

Free off-street parking is available at 7 Brickworks Court, Glenella, 4740 located off Glenella Connection Road. Once you have secured a park the entrance to the rear of our building is locate between the blue and cream coloured buildings Follow the signage through to reception for check in.

This program may not suit those working on a BMA coal mine.
